Eugene Buchanan is an accomplished outdoor journalist, author, and editor based in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. With a background in Business and Economics from Colorado College, where he captained the lacrosse team, Buchanan went on to build a notable career in outdoor and adventure media. He was the editor-in-chief of Paddler magazine for 14 years and has contributed to a wide array of publications, including The New York Times, Outside, National Geographic Adventure, and Men’s Journal. He has also worked with NBC at the Beijing Olympics and covered the X Games for ESPN.
Known for his adventurous spirit, Buchanan has explored over 30 countries, often focusing on paddling and first river descents. His books include Brothers on the Bashkaus, Outdoor Parents, Outdoor Kids, and Comrades on the Colca. He is also a founder of Paddling Life, a platform for paddling news and insights. Buchanan’s work often explores the intersections of outdoor adventure, family, and the environment, making him a respected figure in both journalism and outdoor communities.
