Whether it’s a new song from an artist you know, or an innovative sound from an artist you ought to know, Steamboat Locals is constantly updating our music selection each week. Here are some new songs added just this past week:
“Home Again” – The Brothers Comatose with Lindsay Lou
“Home Again” is a collaborative single by The Brothers Comatose and Lindsay Lou, released TODAY. The song was originally written after friends of the band lost their home in a wildfire in the Santa Cruz mountains. In light of recent wildfires in Los Angeles, the artists decided to release the track to support affected musicians. All proceeds from Bandcamp sales and downloads are being donated to MusiCares, an organization assisting musicians in need. The song addresses the emotional impact of wildfires, with lyrics reflecting the devastation and hope experienced by those affected. Listeners can support the cause by purchasing the track on Bandcamp. This may be a song you have the opportunity to see live at WinterWonderGrass, where both are scheduled to perform February 28 – March 2. “Try Not To Die” – Andy Frasco & The U.N.
Co-written with producer Chris Gelbuda during a creative retreat in Nashville, “Try Not To Die” blends humor and heartfelt advice, encouraging listeners to embrace life’s messiness and find joy amidst chaos. Frasco describes his songwriting approach as seeking silver linings, aiming to help people break out of depression and consider different ways to live life. In support of the new release, Andy Frasco & The U.N. have announced a North American tour, with performances scheduled at venues such as the Mission Ballroom in Denver on February 7.
“Time With My Sins” – The Head and The Heart
The Head and The Heart released their deeply personal single, “Time With My Sins,” in late January 2025. This track follows their earlier release, “Arrow,” and both songs are set to feature on their forthcoming studio album, with more details anticipated soon. Vocalist and guitarist Jonathan Russell began writing “Time With My Sins” during a period of personal distraction but was unable to complete it. Band member Matty Gervais later revisited the song, bringing a fresh perspective that surprised Russell. Russell commented, “The way he interpreted the song and brought it forward is just a great example of why I love being in this band.” He described the song as addressing vulnerability and hard truths that can be challenging to share openly.
“Ripple” – Good Neighbours
Good Neighbours, an indie-pop duo, released their latest single, “Ripple,” on January 24, 2025. The song delves into themes of grief and support, inspired by a close friend’s experience with loss. The band explains, “This song is about pulling your loved ones out of that deep place.” This will more than likely be part of the set list when Good Neighbours play the Fillmore Auditorium on February 12 in support of Foster the People.
“Chasing Paradise” – OneRepublic with KYGO
“Chasing Paradise,” released on January 24, 2025, marks the third collaboration between Kygo and OneRepublic, following their previous hits “Lose Somebody” and “Stranger Things.” This track continues their tradition of blending Kygo’s signature tropical house style with OneRepublic’s emotive vocals. The song’s lyrics explore themes of nostalgia and the pursuit of happiness, reflecting on past experiences and the desire to recapture moments of joy. The chorus emphasizes the idea of chasing an idealized version of paradise, suggesting a longing for a time or place where everything felt perfect. Musically, “Chasing Paradise” features uplifting melodies and a catchy beat, characteristic of Kygo’s early work. The production incorporates tropical house elements, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements the song’s themes.
“Metaverse” – Cage the Elephant
“Metaverse” is a song by American rock band Cage the Elephant, released as part of their sixth studio album, Neon Pill. The track features the band’s signature blend of alternative rock with introspective lyrics, exploring themes of digital escapism and the search for authenticity in a virtual world.
“Minor Inconveniences” – Bebe Stockwell
“Minor Inconveniences” is a heartfelt acoustic song by Bebe Stockwell, released in November 2024. In this track, Stockwell reflects on the ups and downs of life, offering a candid and introspective perspective.
“Lady Liberty” – Galactic with Irma Thomas
“Lady Liberty” is a collaborative single by the New Orleans funk band Galactic and the legendary “Soul Queen of New Orleans,” Irma Thomas. The song serves as the lead single from their forthcoming album, Audience With The Queen, scheduled for release on April 11, 2025. The track addresses themes of social justice and racially fueled violence, with poignant lyrics reflecting on contemporary issues. Thomas’s powerful vocals deliver lines such as, “Another black man shot down last night and they keep adding up… Lord save us all, Lady Liberty took a fall.” She emphasizes the importance of raising awareness through music, stating, “What’s happening around us needs to be sung about and heard.” Galactic’s bassist, Robert Mercurio, expressed admiration for Thomas’s performance, noting that hearing her sing about social injustice “really hits home.” The collaboration marks a departure for both artists, blending Galactic’s funk instrumentation with Thomas’s soulful vocals to address pressing societal issues.
