Steamboat Locals strives to be the place you learn about new music first! Whether it’s a new song from an artist you know, or an innovative sound from an artist you ought to know, Steamboat Locals is constantly updating our music selection each week. Here are some new songs added just this past week:
“Sanctuary” – The Little Moon Travelers
One of our favorite local bands just released a newly recorded version of “Sanctuary”, a heartfelt song born from a deeply personal journey of recovery from long COVID. The songwriter recounts a transformative period marked by sleepless nights, panic attacks, and chronic fatigue, during which nature, family, and friends played a crucial role in healing. Each day, a walk along the “Sanctuary” trail to a small stream became a ritual of resilience, culminating in a plunge into frigid water that symbolized emerging hope. The song, recorded at the top of an old Nordic ski jump, reflects newfound perspectives on life, gratitude, and the healing power of nature. The lyrics inspire listeners to embrace grace and find solace in the flow of life’s journey. Catch The Little Moon Travelers play the Music on the Green series on July 31st!
“Space” – Carly Hanley
Born in Chicago, and again residing in Chicago as an adult, Carly Hanley spent most of her youth in Steamboat Springs. As a former SSWSC athlete and graduate of SSHS, Carly is still considered one of our “Steamboat Local” musicians, with any of her lyrics and music videos inspired by the Yampa Valley. Carly Hanley’s song “Space” is an evocative exploration of emotional distance and longing. The song captures the essence of feeling disconnected, yet yearning for closeness. Hanley’s poignant lyrics and haunting melody draw listeners into a reflective space, contemplating the complexities of relationships and the human desire for connection. The track’s atmospheric soundscapes and heartfelt delivery make it a standout piece in Hanley’s musical repertoire, resonating deeply with those who have experienced the nuances of separation and intimacy.
“Funeral” – Teddy Swims
Teddy Swims’ song “Funeral” is a soulful and introspective track that delves into themes of loss and reflection. The song showcases Swims’ powerful vocal delivery and emotive storytelling. “Funeral” poignantly captures the complexity of saying goodbye, not just to people, but to parts of oneself and chapters of life. With its rich instrumentation and heartfelt lyrics, the track resonates deeply with listeners, highlighting Swims’ ability to convey profound emotion through his music. You will have the chance to see Teddy Swims live at the Dillon Amphitheater on September 6th.
“Another Day in Babylon” – Brett Dennen
“Another Day in Babylon” by Brett Dennen is a thought-provoking track that delves into themes of societal struggle and personal resilience. Dennen’s signature folk-pop sound is coupled with introspective lyrics that reflect on the challenges of modern life and the search for meaning amidst chaos. The song’s catchy melody and reflective tone encourage listeners to find hope and perseverance, even in the face of adversity. With its blend of poignant storytelling and uplifting rhythms, “Another Day in Babylon” resonates as both a commentary on the world and a personal anthem for overcoming life’s obstacles.
